Required Text: Critical Reasoning (6th. Edition) Cerderblom & Paulsen
The text is used as a supplement to the lectures. The subject matter found in the book will be either addressed or referred to in the lectures, but not in the same format. Not all material presented in the lectures is found in the text. Therefore, the student is strongly encouraged to take good notes both on lectures and on their independent reading. (See instructor if you need help).

Class Requirements:
1. Participation: 20% of grade
a. Attendance is a must. Points will be given for allscheduled class meetings, which includes active participation.
b. Three tardies are equivalent to one absence. Thus, participation points will be subtracted for these types of acquired absences.
2. Quizzes and Assignments: 55% of grade
a. Quizzes: There will be at least one announced quiz every two weeks. The quiz will be announced one class period prior to it being given. The student is expected to be prepared for such quizzes even if s/he was absent on the day quiz was announced. In addition, pop-quizzes will also be given.
Make-ups on missed quizzes will be permitted according to the following conditions:
1. The student notifies the instructor that s/he is going to be absent on the testing day. Such notification is to be given on the day quiz is announced or prior to it being given.
2. The quiz has not been corrected and returned to the students who took it at the scheduled time.
3. There is a penalty for taking a quiz late. The student will not be permitted to attain any extra credit points and/or his/her grade will be deducted 10% of his/her gained points.
b. Assignments: Assignments will be given periodically according to the instructor's discretion for either credit, extra-credit or simply practice. There are no make-ups for in-class assignments or group work.
3. Final Examination: 25% of grade
The final examination is comprehensive and objective in type. The exam cannot be made-up. |
