Introduction to Philosophy (3 units)

UC:CSU IGETC Area 3B

We live with others in a natural world made human by our efforts: we work and play, we believe in a God or we disbelieve, we make choices, we love and hate, create and destroy, seek happiness, and die. Philosophy may be understood as critical reflection on these and other dimensions of human existence. Combining lectures and small group discussions, Philosophy 1 introduces the student to basic philosophical approaches, issues, perspectives, theories, and selected world views. In discussing these matters students are encouraged to develop their logical thinking and definitional skills.
